Terrat is a ward and village of the Maasailand located in Simanjiro plain in the Simanjiro district about 100 km from Arusha in Tanzania. The population are the Maasai community.
Terrat dispensary was founded in 1976 as a rural health facility to provided health service provider in Terrat.
Under the Local Government Authority Simanjiro District (LGA), in Manyara Region region, the facility is registered to provide health care for nomadic Maasai pastoralists and communities in Terrat village.
Terrat Health facility under Clinical charge Tumaini Kamkama has taken the lead to work with CACHA and AAI to initiate the first Care and Treatment Center for HIV and AIDS and other associated illnesses to HIV like TB etc and all other general health care in Terrat village.
The Maternity.
In 2014 CACHA for the very first time was invited to provide medical care in Terrat village, the first Caravan saw over 700 patients and two new babies were born. While HIV seems a threat to the community and CACHA took the initiative to co-found the HIV care and treatment centre, the community took a tough decision to start the maternity centre.
The revenue was 2 Canadian dollars for capable women and a mandatory of 2.2 Canadian dollars for all working men.
The total estimate of the maternity centre is about 150,000 Canadian while the community so far have have an unimaginable estimate that it has contributed over 50,000 Canadian dollars.
Further to the construction and other important aspects of the facility be done the equipment is the other objective to look at this project.
Due to severe continued drought, the economic situation of this pastoral community has been very much affected and the livestock they depend on have been diminishing.
Once the construction is completed, the RCH facility will need further support to equip the centre with necessary ward furnishings such as surgical beds, delivery beds, fetal monitors, an ultrasound, an anaesthesia machine etc.
Together, with your support, a fully functioning RCH facility can become a reality. Together we can improve the health outcomes of this Tanzanian community, reducing morbidity and mortality for mothers and newborns.
