Lara Captures the Sun: A story of hope and connection for people and planet

Readers might be interested in the following new book, Lara Captures the Sun: A story of hope and connection for people and planet, which is Ruth Tabacnik’s first children’s book and a fundraiser for solar lights in Africa. Cacha partnered with Ruth’s organization Beads of Awareness several years ago at one of Cacha’s annual events in Ottawa. Aimed primarily at 5-12 year olds, the book is an inspiring tale for young and old alike. It is based on a true story about a solar lights project in northern Uganda that improved the health of families through the use of solar lights, which eliminated the use of oil lamps to see at night. Here’s a synopsis taken from the back cover:

‘Two worlds apart – Gulu in Africa and Chelsea in Canada – are brought together by a little girl, Lara, and her mama Rose. When they see children getting sick from the burning of oil lamps, they ask, “Could there be another way?” They show that yes, there is another way……’

The book is available at Books on Beechwood and Perfect Books in Ottawa, at several stores in Chelsea and Wakefield, as well as on Amazon. It is beautifully illustrated by artist Iris Kiewiet. A perfect book for a brighter and healthier world in Africa!
