Canada-Africa Community Health Alliance (CACHA), is a Canadian non-profit, non-governmental organization that seeks to improve health care and health education to remote African communities. CACHA has been working on the island for 15 years, and has worked to establish and grow collaborative relationships with the local team which has proven key to ensuring a thriving and successful mission!
CACHA has worked with our Tanzanian partners to identify the following objectives for our medical missions to Ukerewe Island:
Primary health care
Eye exams and reading glasses
HIV, malaria and syphilis testing
Dental care
Medications
Surgical support (if funding allows)
Health education
CACHA is looking for volunteers to work alongside our Tanzanian partners in the fall of 2025. We are looking for people who want to help in providing this much needed care to this remote part of Tanzania. Specifically, we are looking for:
Physicians, medical specialists, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers as well as logisticians (non-medical personnel who have an important role in organizing key elements of the mission, and allowing the health care workers to spend more time focusing on patient care).
We hope that you can join the team in this opportunity!

7. Provide opportunities for in-depth discussions for any challenges or opportunities identified by Tanzanian or Canadian members of the team.
Team members should always keep in mind:
What is the best way to serve the people of Ukerewe Island?
How can we all best learn from each other?
How best can the CACHA team support the work of the health care providers on the island?
How do we ensure people are safe while waiting to be seen and who is to be seen?
