CACHA’S 11th Annual Golf Tournament, sponsored by UOHS

This past September 21, 54 golfers (and 24 extra eaters) came out to raise funds for CACHA at this year’s golf tournament at Anderson Links Golf Club in Carlsbad Springs, ON. There was some great golf, great food, great raffles prices, and an exceptional talk from Sister Clarissa, a long standing medical partner of CACHA, now based near Arusha, Tanzania.

We’d like to thank all our guests: your support is crucial to our work; and our sponsors, University of Ottawa Health Services (UOHS) as well as GGFL Chartered Professional Accountants, Uniglobe Travel, Marcil Lavallée, Human 2.0, and Festival Promotions, and all the businesses who donates amazing prizes for our raffle.

Grinding Machine Celebration: An Email From Shirati, Tanzania
Grinding Machine Celebration: An Email From Shirati, Tanzania

From CACHA’s Shirati mission co-lead, Erla Koch

The 6 Grinding machine projects have been extremely well received by the Women’s Groups and offer a much-needed service to the community. They provide income for the group and women no longer have to walk such long distances to have their maize ground.

On Friday, one group began operating their brand new grinding machine. They were so excited and grateful for the gift of a grinding machine that they invited us to come for a celebration and insisted on having a feast in our honor to show their appreciation.
We invited those of our team who were available to join us as well for the celebration.
Steven has worked very hard to help me get:and I am very grateful to him.

As we approached the village, the women met us with dancing and singing. We inspected the grinding machine, the Bishop who Steven invited, blessed the machine and offered a prayer of thanks. The machine was started and began grinding maize. It was very exciting.

We were then invited to attend a feast they had prepared and later met with them under the tree to share a time together.
It was truly a humbling experience to receive such gratitude and we felt very blessed to share this experience with them. We wish them much success in supporting their families through this project.

Erla Koch
