TERRAT MEDICAL MISSION WINTER 2020 (FEBRUARY 5TH TO 21TH )
JOIN A TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS FOR A MISSION TO BENEFIT THE MAASAI COMMUNITY IN TERRAT, TANZANIA.
The mission will last two weeks. Our team will consist of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, ophthalmologists, and other health workers, as well as logisticians (non-medical workers).
Location: Terrat, Simanjaro District
Dates: Feb 5th to 21st, 2020

Mission Cost per participant: $2,830 (does not include airfare)
Estimated Flight Cost: $1,800 – $2,500 (international + in-country flights + 15% administration fee on cost of flights)

Beneficiaries: People of Terrat and surrounding villages.

Objectives:
1. Provide access to high-quality health care services, and support the local health care system through the sharing of knowledge, information, and resources between Canadian and Tanzanian medical personnel.a. Work with local Tanzanian partners to provide quality health care. This will include an orientation team meeting between Tanzanians and Canadians
b. Sharing and teaching of clinical information between Tanzanian and Canadian clinicians
c. Continue on the work completed during the previous mission. Ensure follow-up with previous patients (if possible), and review the training provided to the Tanzanian health care personnel.
2. Contribute to the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS
* Free testing via Tanzanian clinicians* Referrals to local HIV programs including counseling
3. Offer the opportunity for mission participants to increase their knowledge in an area other than their designated mission role/profession
4. Work closely with our local partners* Complete a follow-up with the local partners on the Care Treatments Centre project in Terrat, to ensure that the Cacha requirements are followed by the local partners and the project benefits to the local population.
* Support the community and our local partners to develop projects for health improvement in Maasailand as the building of a Maternity center. 5. Foster increased community health education
* Continued efforts to facilitate and promote education about good health with the local community
* Schedule seminars at local secondary schools to talk with students about health, sexuality, and puberty.
* Work with local Tanzanian partners to provide quality health care and help to teach female secondary school students about health and puberty, through the special project “Girls to Women”

CACHA medical missions are non-profit and self-funded by volunteers and their donors. The mission cost is disbursed over a variety of mission-related expenses including; accommodation, food, in-country transportation, allowances for locally engaged partners, medical and logistics equipment and supplies, communications, customs, medical treatments and referrals for patients, as well as CACHA overhead and management, CACHA membership fee, and helps to support many of our CACHA projects.
All donations submitted to CACHA toward payment of mission costs and plane tickets are tax deductible.
