COVID-19 is in Tanzania. Our friends in Terrat need our help

While Canada is starting to see an improvement in our Covid-19 numbers, Tanzania is not. Their outbreak is just starting. The numbers reported there seem small, but are not a true representation of what is happening. They have very little testing and tracking capability, so they are unable to get a full picture of the burden on illness. As you can imagine, COVID-19 is going to be devastating in its course through much of Africa, Tanzania included. Supplies are sparse and expensive, and medical care can be difficult to access.

Many of you know the conditions at the dispensary in Terrat. They have few staff and minimal supplies. Recently, CACHA donated all the PPE remaining from previous missions but it has been used up quickly. The staff are doing the best they can with what they have but they need our help.

We are attempting to raise funds to provide supplies for the dispensary, and protective equipment to keep the vital healthcare workers safe. This includes medical masks, face shields/goggles, gowns, gloves and boots, as well as hand sanitizer, soap and disinfectant. We also hope to provide some vital equipment, such as non-contact thermometers and at least one oxygen saturation monitor.

As I am sure you understand it is unlikely that CACHA’s Medical Missions will be able to go to Tanzania in 2020. But even though we cannot be there in person we can still help. Providing equipment would be a tremendous way to provide assistance to Terrat in their battle against this global pandemic.

We know that this is a hard time to ask for donations as everyone is impacted by Covid-19. But if you can give just even a small amount, it would be very appreciated. Any donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.

Thank you, and please continue to stay safe.
