Beginning in 2004, CACHA began an association with Kilema District Hospital that has blossomed into a very productive partnership. As a result of our combined efforts, the following projects are being implemented:
Opened in the fall of 2007, the CTC is the focal point of our efforts to battle HIV/AIDS in the Kilimanjaro area. The 2-storey, approx. 500 m2 building, houses space for voluntary counselling and testing, an ARV treatment clinic, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, a fully-equipped laboratory for testing and follow-up, a specialized HIV pharmacy, a community centre and the Tegemeo Kilema Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support Programme.
Tegemeo: The Kilema Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support Programme Building on our established partnership with Kilema Hospital, we are striving to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children in the Kilema area in the following ways:

The first community outreach caravan was implemented in February of 2006 by bringing frontline medical care to 9 village dispensaries in the Kilema area. Following an overwhelmingly positive response, 2 back-to-back caravans were organized in February of 2007, totalling 18 clinic days throughout the district and a fourth caravan took place in February of 2008. Today, CACHA organises seven medical missions per year to Tanzania as well as two infrastructure missions. See our missions and events page for the latest announced mission dates to Kilema District Hospital, Ukerewe’s Nansio Hospital, the PTE Women’s Health missions, and Shirati KMT Hospital. A team of 7 professionals from Canada volunteered to go to Shirati, Tanzania to provide administrative support, infrastructure support and to teach English and computer classes. The team provided its own financial support through Canada Africa Community Health Alliance (CACHA). A container of used and refurbished medical equipment and supplies was collected and sent to Shirati hospital in July. This was organized by Lloyd Koch on behalf of CACHA, with funding through Mennonite Central Committee, Friends of Shirati, CACHA and other individuals. The team inspected the equipment to ensure it was ready to use on site and installed a few remaining items. To learn more about the project, click here
